Fitness Facts & Recent Happenings

Hey everyone,

This week I want to share five fitness facts and three recent happenings.

Five Fitness Facts:

  1. Insulin and growth hormone have an inverse relationship. You must keep insulin under control if you want growth hormone to do its job of mobilizing fat. Stress increases insulin levels. Have you tried Exercise Therapy to reduce stress?

  2. Muscle glycogen is about 3 parts water and 1 part glucose. This is why can water weight may accumulate at the beginning of a strength training program. This is not a bad thing, but something to keep in mind if it affects your goals.

  3. Eating healthy is not more expensive than a junk food diet, especially once you consider health care costs down the road.

  4. Workout times and negative side effects are positively correlated. The quality of your workouts is more important than the quantity. As my high school track coach always said, “quality over quantity.”

  5. Once you reach adulthood, fat cells can be created, but not destroyed. Fat cells only shrink, but that does not mean they can’t shrink to close to nothing.

Three Recent Happenings:

  1. Cove Summer Fitness is back at its regular 6:15 pm time this Wednesday June 11th. It’s $20/person. Bring a towel and water bottle. I hope to see you all there!

  2. This Thursday after 6:30pm Strength & Stamina class, we are heading into Boston to watch the Red Sox game. The game starts at 7:10pm, so we will be showing up dramatically late….Red Sox tickets are discounted to $35 because it is a Veterans at Lasell event. Let me know if you want to join and hang out with some awesome people!

  3. Three new workouts were added to Members > Community > Workouts. These workouts are related to acceleration, reaction, and speed drills.

Always improve,

Chris
